The Devotion to the Blessed Mother under the title - “Mary Who Unties Knots” (German: Maria Knottenloserin) - started in a big city near Munich, Augsburg, which was made famous by the story of Martin Luther. It is based not on an apparition or private revelation. It is based on a painting that was commissioned as an ex-voto, an offering of thanksgiving for a favor received. This painting can still be seen today at the Church of Sankt Peter am Perlach in Augsburg.
“We present our difficulties, our Knots to her, especially the ones which affects the Christian life of our Family.”
(Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio, SJ)
